My favorite Cape Cod Beaches for photos: Massachusetts Family Photographer
Favorite Beaches for Photo Sessions: Cape Cod, Massachusetts
I've had the pleasure of living on the Cape for 30 of my 38 years, and have gotten to explore it even more as I've shot Family photo sessions all over Cape Cod. It amazes me how beautiful all of the beaches are for their own reasons - The Outer Cape offers large dunes and beautiful beach grass while the Upper Cape has amazing boardwalks and fun locations!
As a Cape Cod Newborn Lifestyle photographer, I'm often inside client's homes admiring the gorgeous nurseries, but once the summer hits, my schedule quickly fills up with outside Family photos! Everyone wants to capture their vacations, their time with family, or maybe just their summer tans before the long Winter season comes back. Over the last few years, I've been lucky enough to shoot all over the Cape, but I do have a few favorite locations. Here just a few that I love!
Mayflower Beach in Dennis, Massachusetts:
This beach offers beautiful flat sand and sand bars at low tide - the walk out to the water can be pretty far but it's worth it for the photos! There's also lots of beach grass and pretty "Cape fences" to use as props. Because I love it so much, I'm offering mini-sessions at Mayflower on June 26th. You can find more info about these here.
Provincetown Inn Beach and Grounds in Provincetown, Massachusetts:
For the last few years, I've been lucky enough to be a photographer during Family Week in Provincetown. It's a whirlwind of a week, consisting of 4-8 photo sessions a day! There are so many things that I love about it, but what stands out the most is the beauty of every location at the tip of the Cape! You can find out more info about Family Week on the Family Equality Council's website.
South Cape Beach and State Park in Mashpee, Massachusetts:
This beach is the most local to me and offers some of the best variety for photos! When you enter, you'll walk along a pretty boardwalk before you step onto a landing deck overlooking the beach. When the tide is high, the beach is pretty small, but there are still plenty of dunes and beach grass to explore.
Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary in Yarmouth, Massachusetts:
Off the beaten path, but pretty easy to find, this setting isn't technically a beach, but it does lead down to one! There are some beautiful buildings to use as backdrops, a fun trail to the beach, and then a very pretty view over to Sandy Neck. You can find more info about this little hidden gem on their website!
Great Hollow Beach in Truro, Massachusetts:
I actually love all of the beaches in Truro and Wellfleet- you can't go wrong at any of them! Ballston Beach, Duck Harbor, and Head of the Meadow Beach are just a few of my favorites. They all offer beautiful light and amazing Cape Cod dunes!
Dowses Beach in Osterville, Massachusetts:
One of the reasons I love Dowses so much for Family Photos is that even though it may be packed with people, we can almost always find a spot that makes it look like you are the only ones there! Surrounded by the ocean on one side, and East Bay on the other, this beach offers lots of little hideaway locations for a variety of backdrops.
I'm so excited to work with the families already scheduled this year and I'm looking forward to finding new "favorite spots" to include in next year's list! Contact me to book your session or if you have any questions about locations!
